An XML-Sitemaps.com alternative: how GenMap compares
By Pablo Murad. Last updated
GenMap is an alternative to XML-Sitemaps.com if you want a sitemap that lists only indexable pages, with a diagnosis of what blocks indexing. XML-Sitemaps.com is the better fit if you want the lowest price: as of October 2026 its paid plan starts at $2.44 a month, and ours at $7.
XML-Sitemaps.com and GenMap, side by side
The XML-Sitemaps.com column comes from its public home page, read on October 19, 2026, without submitting any form. The GenMap column comes from our plan definitions as of October 21, 2026.
| XML-Sitemaps.com (as of October 2026) | GenMap (as of October 2026) | |
|---|---|---|
| Free page limit | Up to 500 pages, no registration. | 500 pages on the Free plan, which needs an account. Without an account, a public scan covers 30 pages at depth 2. |
| Image, video and news sitemaps | Listed as PRO features. | Included in the Free plan. |
| Broken links and SEO diagnosis | A broken-link report and "SEO Health" are listed as PRO features. | Included in every crawl result, Free plan too: SEO diagnosis, broken links and orphan pages. |
| Indexable-only sitemap | Not stated on the home page. | Yes. A page is listed only if it returns 200, is not marked noindex and is its own canonical. |
| JavaScript rendering | Not mentioned on the home page. | Yes, with Chromium, from the Growth plan ($19 a month). |
| Scheduled updates | Automatic sitemap updates are listed as PRO. | From the Growth plan. |
| API | Not verified. | API keys from the Growth plan. |
| Output formats | XML, HTML and plain text. | XML, with a gzip copy. No HTML sitemap. |
| Largest site size | Up to 5,000,000 pages on PRO. | Up to 1,600,000 pages on Enterprise. |
| Entry price for paid plans | PRO-Sitemaps from $2.44 a month. | Solo at $7 a month. |
| Track record | States 20+ years and 51M+ sitemaps generated. | A new product with no public usage numbers yet. |
Where XML-Sitemaps.com is the better choice
- Price. Its paid plan starts at $2.44 a month, against $7 for our first paid plan.
- No account needed. It builds a sitemap of up to 500 pages without registration. We ask for an account above 30 pages.
- More output formats. Besides XML, it offers an HTML sitemap and a plain-text list. We produce XML only.
- Larger ceiling. Its PRO plan states sites of up to 5,000,000 pages; our largest plan stops at 1,600,000.
- Track record. It states more than 20 years in operation. GenMap is new.
Where GenMap is different
- Indexable pages only. Pages that return errors, are marked noindex or point to another canonical stay out of the XML, and the report tells you why.
- Diagnosis is part of the result, not a paid add-on: broken links, orphan pages and SEO checks come with every crawl, including on the Free plan.
- Image, video and news sitemaps are in the Free plan.
- JavaScript rendering for sites built with React, Vue or Angular, from the Growth plan.
- Scheduled crawls and API keys from the Growth plan.

What we did not check
We read only the public home page of XML-Sitemaps.com. We did not run a crawl there, so we cannot compare what happens after you press Generate, the real crawl depth or request limits, how long the generated file stays available, or the details of the PRO-Sitemaps plans. Its home page shows only the entry price. If any of this has changed, check their site before you decide.
Which one should you pick?
- Pick XML-Sitemaps.com for a quick sitemap of a small site with no account, an HTML sitemap, or the lowest paid price.
- Pick GenMap when the sitemap should hold only indexable pages, when you want the diagnosis alongside it, or when the site renders with JavaScript.
You can try GenMap without an account on a 30-page scan. To check a sitemap you already have, from any generator, use the free sitemap validator. The XML sitemap guide explains what a good file contains.
